Why are athletes cautious when it comes to CBD products?

There is an increasing number of athletes that have become curious about the possible benefits of using CBD products.  However, there are still some who are wary of false claims. There have been several athletes who are at the top of their profession and have spoken out publicly, whilst others are intrigued, but not wanting to shout it from the rooftops.

Although research is very limited, CBD shows some potential for treating certain conditions that are associated with sports.

One of the reasons athletes might be cautious is the lack of testing, and they may be reluctant to bring too much attention to themselves, especially if they are already in the ‘limelight’. Understandably, they are wary.  There are so many CBD products available, and some of those companies make unsubstantiated claims.

One example of misleading information can be claims about the level of THC content. Any reputable company will have their ways of testing within a lab.  If this is the case, they should be prepared to show you the results with at least a third-party certification. Not only will these tests reveal any levels of THC, but also environmental contaminants that may be present.

Some athletes have expressed that they feel benefits from taking CBD products and report it helps aid recovery, improves their sleep pattern and assists with pain management. However, a high concentration product would be required to reap any possible benefit, and some athletes will be concerned that it contains levels of THC, and in turn, show up in a drugs test. Any athlete must ensure that they look carefully into and CBD product they are planning on using.  CBD products should not cause a positive test result for THC, especially if you purchase a CBD isolate as oppose to a full-spectrum option.

In conclusion, there is currently not enough evidence to prove what the benefits of using CBD products have long-term.  However, more and more top athletes are intrigued, if not a little cautious.  Always ensure you purchase from a well-established company and do your research beforehand.  Impact Sports are happy to answer any questions you may have if you are a keen athlete wanting to test the theory for yourself.
